Our sweet baby boy has arrived and we are just so in love! His birth story is very very different from R's birth story. For one, it was scheduled. For everything we went through with R (long labor, emergency c-section, nicu) we decided with the advice from our doctor that it would be best to just schedule a c-section. It was a decision I went back and forth about because I originally wanted to try a V-back because I felt like I could have pushed more with R. My doctor was confident I would be successful even though I had already had a previous c-section. But as we got closer to our due date, Ry and I talked about it and I really didn't want to be put in another situation like R's. I knew in my heart I just could not could not do nicu again. So we decided to schedule it. I was nervous about the whole "picking his birth day" thing because I am a firm believer in fate but I knew that if he wanted to come earlier, he could have. Our doctor said that they schedule c-sections at 39 weeks and that it was completely safe and not at all traumatic to the baby (both of which I was concerned about) As we got closer to the date I was actually excited. I plan everything..and this was all planned out. Unless he decided to come early. 39 weeks was the Tuesday before thanksgiving. This worked out perfect also because Ry really needed to go into work on thanksgiving. also, having R at home, with this scheduled we could plan to have the grandparents here to help with her and stay with me in the hospital. This made us feel better about it all because we live so far away from family. If we were to wait and go into labor, it would be a minimum of a few hours that help could come. I was very excited about this plan. I knew in my heart this was the best decision for us.
As the date got closer and closer I soaked up every single minute with R, even though I was so uncomfortable it was hard to do much. I knew our lives would be changing dramatically soon. I don't think I slept for the whole week before.
My parents came the weekend before and Ry's dad and stepmom came on monday. We all went to dinner and headed to bed early that night. Our c-section was scheduled in the morning and we had to be there at 6 am. I tucked R in for the last time as my only baby and couldn't help but tear up. I knew it would be a while that I could hold her or pick her up after my csection and I think that made it harder. We went to bed..I did not sleep. how could you?
Ry and I woke up early and finished getting our bags and stuff ready for the hospital. My parents stayed at our house and they were there for when R woke up.
We got to the hospital around 6 am and were taken to our room. She told me to go ahead and get into my gown, with the fancy socks and stockings and then she took my vitals and hooked me up to an IV. Did I mention I could not eat after midnight? I was starving!
We were told that we were 2nd on the list and that they would probably get to us around 8 or 9 am. we waited and waited. Ry and I watched lots of tv to ease our minds. around 9 am, my parents arrived at the hospital (pops and sasa went to be with R)
around that time, a nurse came in and said that there was a mistake and we were actually 4th on the list and that it would be another hour or so. the anticipation was killing us.
they finally came and got us around 10:30 and wheeled me to surgery. I said goodbye to my parents and they went to the waiting room and ry came with. They took me to a dim lit room with curtains and started taking my vitals and explaining what was about to happen. My doctor came in to say hello and sign my belly. She said "ok lets have a baby"!
as they were taking my vitals, the anesthesiologist came in to talk to me and prep me. there was an alarm that kept going off and beeping and they said it was my heart rate. They kept asking me if I was ok and I was nervous but I felt fine. They told me to calm down..I didn't feel like I was freaking out. I was nervous yes but I had already gone through this..I knew what was about to happen...only this time it would be slower and not an emergency.
They wheeled me to the OR and told Ry to sit outside. Then I started to freak out. I am calm with him..I needed him and they wouldn't let him in yet. The ladies were so friendly and nice and talked to me about everything to keep my mind off things. They said they were going to do the spinal and I wasn't too nervous because the epidural with R was a piece of cake. The nurse had me sit up with my feet on a stool. There was a nurse in front of me (I couldn't remember any of their names) she was talking to me and explaining what was going on. The anesthesiologist was behind me and she gave me the numbing shot..she said it would sting and it did. I didn't remember it stinging with R. She then said to arch my back and push my belly in. As she started to put the needle in I could feel it and really freaked out. It felt like pressure and sharp pain. I was so freaked out and started crying. I was scared and wanted Ry. She added more numbing medicine and did the needle again. It felt like it took forever! Once it was done they pushed me back fast on the table and I instantly felt numb. It felt like my legs were bent up though and I wanted so bad to lay them down. The nurses said that they were down but my legs were bent when the medicine went through and my brain thought they were still bent. crazy huh? It was the weirdest sensation and I started to feel claustrophobic. Then Ry came in and I felt much better. He sat at my head and held my hand and rubbed my head.
Then they started...and C was born so fast. I heard my doctor say. "Oh my gosh he is sooooo cute!!! and has so much hair" and then we heard him cry. and Ry and I started to cry.
C was PISSED! haha his poor scream was sad..you could tell he was so mad to be born..he was cozy inside. It made us laugh. they took him through the double sliding glass doors to clean him off after showing us him over the curtain and we could hear him screaming through the glass. Poor thing..he had a great set of lungs though. after he was cleaned up they brought him to us and Ry was able to hold him and I could see him up close. My first thought other than the fact he was perfect was how much he looked like R. He was sooooo cute and so sweet. He was born at 12:08 pm and weighed 7lbs, 15 oz. I knew he would be bigger than R just because I was so much more uncomfortable with this pregnancy.
As they started to sew me back up, Ry left with C and I started to feel anxiety again. Ry calms me. The anesteologist was at my head talking me through everything but I felt sick. I felt like my head was going to explode. I could feel my heartbeat in my face. and then I threw up..alot. The nurse was so sweet and caught my vomit and wiped my mouth. The anestelogist was also wiping my face with a wet cold washcloth and I think that is how I got through this all. Once they were done I was wheeled to recovery. It was a darker room with curtains. The nurse there was sweet and gave me the controller to the tv. She checked my vitals every 30 minutes. I asked how long I would be in there for and she said till I got feeling back in my toes. She said it could take 1-2 hours. C was taken to the nursery and Ry and my family was taken to my hospital room that I would be in after recovery. I started to watch tv and fell in and out of sleep. Everytime the nurse checked me she would ask me to wiggle my toes and I couldn't. I was there for 3 hours!!!!!! While I was there, they brought C to me...the nurse held him at my head and I was able to kiss him and talk to him. I had to stay in a laying position so it was hard to hold him. Finally I was able to go to my room and see my family and Ry. and shortly after C came to our room.
This whole process was nothing like with R...everything was different it was as if it was my first time giving birth. C was in our room...before R was in nicu. I was able to breastfeed when C was brought to our room and he tried to latch but didn't at first. He finally latched and drank some around 11:30 that night. I was thankful he latched so well. Ry stayed the night with me in the hospital and we had a good night. The next morning..they came to get C for his vitals and when they returned with him, they had said that they already did his circumcision. I was shocked but thankful it was done with. I didn't even see his private area before..the nurses and ry had changed him because I had to stay in bed in a laying down position. We had a pretty good day, pops and sasa came to visit as well as my parents. and the J's came later that evening. That night was a rough night though. I was in pain, Ry had to leave to go home and sleep because he had work the next day so my mom stayed with me. Thankful my mom could stay with me. Also, C was very fussy..I was convinced his circumcision was bothering him. I called the nurse from the nursery to our room and she reassured me that it was ok. He was still fussy and wasn't latching great. I called the nurse back and she asked me if it would be ok to give him some formula. My milk hadn't fully came in yet and she thought he might be hungry. I gave him some formula and he chugged it..and passed out. We then had a great night. The next morning...he latched great and breastfed perfect throughout the day. We woke up to thanksgiving morning. They had brought me french toast and it was so good. especially because all I could have before was jello. the nurses came to check on C and said he was good to be released. Then the doc came to check on me and said I was good to be released. I was thankful we were only in the hospital for 2 days and going home on a holiday. Ry and my dad came to the hospital and we packed up to go home. I took some pictures of our room and of C in his turkey hat and shirt. I was also able to change him for the first time and guess what? he peed all over me!!! I laughed so hard it hurt! Major mommy fail..boys are very different from girls!
We then went home and I was so excited to see my bug. I missed her so much. my parents and pops and sasa were great about sending me photos and videos of her while we were gone. I knew she was in great hands and having a blast with her grandparents.
When we got home, R was napping and just waking up. I was so glad I could be there to get her from her nap..she was so excited to see me. (ry said she was super excited to see him the night before) I got a little nervous because I wanted her first meeting with her brother to go good. I didn't want her to be scared. We did it slowly because she had just woken up and it went perfectly. She smiled and waved at the "baby" in the carseat. She was a little nervous at first (more excited mommy and daddy were home) but she looked in on him and waved and laughed. She was super excited. We took him out and she kissed his head..and has been kissing his head ever since. She kisses him alll day everyday its so sweet and cute (and kinda annoying after a while..haha) she waves at him and points at him and says "baby" or "hey baby" or "o bay" its adorable. She loves him already so much and that just makes my momma heart explode. We are so happy that everything went smoothly at the hospital with me and C and are blessed to have a healthy beautiful baby boy! The best of both worlds with a sweet little girl and sweet baby boy.
Our days have been a blur and go by so fast. My parents stayed a few days and sasa is here to help me. I feel great...incision is only sore..back is feeling better and boobs are getting less sore. We are starting to get a routine (kinda) C is perfect. breastfeeding great and sleeping 2.5-3.5 hours in between feedings. so thankful to be a mommy of 2. Thankful for an amazing husband who calms me and is there for me and takes wonderful care of me and our kids. He is a awesome daddy. Thankful for the help of my parents and Ry's with cleaning, shopping, cooking, and helping me with EVERYTHING! we have a great support system. I'm happy with how things turned out and so thankful I am no longer pregnant. ha! Loving my time with my sweet bug and my little man. Thank you god.
